Team Assessment and Building

Is good, good enough?

Good teams can become great teams through a better understanding of themselves and the team's group dynamics. They are effective because they work efficiently together. Since teams are comprised of individuals, building a highly effective and interactive team requires an understanding of the style and capabilities of each team member. Team assessment leads to effective team development, the ability to identify solutions to conflicts, and to make informed decisions on new initiatives.

There are basic steps to building a great highly effective team:

  • Meeting with the CEO or President to clarify the organization's objectives and to obtain a snapshot of the senior team's leadership strengths and limitations.
  • Using appropriate leadership development team assessments. These can include: the LEA Team Composite Assessment; Role Expectation Assessment(s); individual one-on-one team effectiveness interviews.
  • Developing observable behavioral and results document(s).
  • Defining specific team and/or specific individual developmental activities.
  • Conducting developmental activities for the team to practice their new understanding.
  • Holding periodic progress review sessions.
