Building Effective Project Leadership Given the complexity of today’s organizations, including restructuring and matrixed functions, project leaders are key to an organization’s future success. Because it is critical that project leaders have strong leadership, influence, and conflict resolution skills, FS&F has developed a series of Project Team Leader Development Modules that enable individual project leaders to maximize contributions as a project leader, a member of a project team, as an individual contributor or functional manager. To achieve sustainable behavioral change, modules provide a systemic approach dealing with three major factors: the role of project leader, an individual’s leadership style and an individual’s project leadership competencies. Modules can also be entirely eliminated or shortened as required. The three modules available are:
The first module enables senior leadership, with input from project leaders, to establish ranges for the most important leadership behaviors for team leaders. It also provides clear data on factors in the organization that contribute to effective and ineffective project leadership. The second module is an individual assessment process for project leaders with feedback from their bosses that pinpoints individual strengths and developmental areas based on a comparison to the established profile. The developing influence and mastering conflict behaviors module includes team formation, causes of team dysfunction, and understanding and resolving sources of conflict which project leaders face within the team and with organizational stakeholders. It includes an assessment of one’s personal conflict style and building a corrective plan of action.
